Does your amateur sports pitch need a drastic makeover, but you’re struggling to find the funds for professional lawn care? Well, we are delighted to announce that Allett Mowers have teamed up with the Institute of Groundsmanship (the IOG), to find an amateur sports pitch that is in desperate need of a makeover!
The competition has been launched as Allett and the IOG want to recognise the hard work that amateur grounds-teams and volunteers are undertaking across the country, often with limited resources and equipment. Pitch to play champions amateur ground-staff and gives them the opportunity to renovate the pitches that they look after, whilst brightening the future for their club. And what’s more? The deadline for entering has now been extended from the 1st November to the 1st December, to allow teams the chance to plead their case and demonstrate the extent to which they need help and the impact that wintery weather can have on the club.
Leigh Bowers Sales Director at Allett, says, “We know that there is nothing worse than trying to play on a poor quality sports pitch, and appreciate the hours of hard work that grounds-teams and volunteers put in. We are eager to help transform the winner’s grounds into something that not only their team, but also their community, can be proud of. Allett lawn mowers are the best in business for professional groundskeepers. Our machines are used on some of the top premiership pitches and the most famous sports grounds around the world. Pitch to Play gives grassroots teams the chance to win equipment to renovate their pitches which will reap the benefits for seasons to come”.
The competition is open to any amateur sports team in the UK that has an under 18s team, no matter the sport. Perhaps your pitch has serious drainage issues like these poor pitches in Chalgrove and Cheshire, meaning that your pitch is often waterlogged and games get ‘rained off’. We know that it’s harder to play on a soggy pitch, so why not enter for the chance to eradicate those uninviting drainage issues?
No matter what the issue, Allett want to help, and we’re looking for the three most run-down pitches in the UK, like this entry from a youth sports pitch in Brighthouse, Yorkshire.
The owners of this piece of uneven ground want to turn the land into a mini sports pitch for children between the ages of 6 and 12, however, with limited funds to redevelop and then maintain the land, they have reached out to Allett for support.
This tired-looking multi-use pitch in Stourbridge is also in pressing need of some TLC, however, limited funds mean the owners have to ‘make do’ with machinery that needs replacing.
Leigh Bowers says: “The winter is undoubtedly the most challenging time for grounds-teams, so we’ve extended the deadline to give people the chance to strengthen their entry for the competition and make sure that those most in need of help are in with the chance of winning.”
Allett’s range of high-end mowers and lawn care equipment is used to maintain some of the most prestigious and iconic sports grounds and pitches across the UK including the likes of Manchester United’s ground at Old Trafford, the home of England’s Rugby Club, Twickenham, and famous cricket clubs, Lords and Edgbaston. With up to £3,000 to spend on Allett’s machines up for the taking, the Pitch to Play competition is one that you really don’t want to miss out on!
